The Academy

What: Training and skill development for basketball, character and team placement.

Who:  Those that want to become their best in grades 2-12.  Open to players from any school.  H.S. players-get H.S. coach's permission first.

When:  Every Monday Night starting, August 1st, 2011. 
Grades 2-5: 5:45-6:45 pm.  Grades 6-12  6:45-8:00 pm
NO TRAINING on days there is no school for MPS.  
Additional training and practice days will be scheduled throughout the year.

Where: The "Big House" Gymnasium Complex of Skyline High School, 845 S. Crismon Rd, Mesa, AZ 85225

Cost: $40 per month with online auto pay.  $45 per month with check or cash. There is a $99 one-time initiation fee that includes: Jersey, registration, and 1st month of Academy.

Other Info:  Competitive teams will
be formed out of the Academy to play in leagues and tournaments.  Players will be placed on team saccording to skill level and development.  Players will pay for league and tourament registration fees.

Instructors:  All trainers are current and/or former collegiate players including Skyline Varsity Head Coach Michael Wirth and staff.

 Frequently asked questions:

 
What will the Academy consist of, what does the training look like?  Each night there will be structured, uniform drills on skill development.  Coaches will also instruct on character development.  Occasionally there will be guest speakers to speak to each group on different topics.  There will be game situations practiced along will fundamental development.  There are even plans to incorporate video analysis on shooting and other skill development and participation in a 3 on 3 league that emphasises skill development.
 
Will there more practice time other than just once a week?  Yes, every Monday night is the bare minimum.  There will be additonal practices scheduled once teams are formed, additional skill development opportunities, additional training times and gym availability. 
 
Who will be leading the training?  The training will be lead by the Skyline High School coaching staff.  All coaches are current high school coaches and/or former collegiate players.  Lead instructor will be Coach Chris Kemp who played at Southwestern College.
 
Is there a difference between training on Monday nights and team practices?  Not really, team practice will be more specific to the team that you are on.
 
If I just want to play on a team and not attend the Academy, can I and does is cost less?  There is only one cost, $40 per month.  That gets you access to everything.  You attend what fits into your schedule.  It is important to try and attend all training and practices to maximize skill development.
 
How is this different from any other club or signing up to be put on a league team for the MYB?  Quality, Quantity and Character Development.  No where else will you get as much access to skill development. The quality of training and instruction is second to none in the best facility for basketball in Arizona. We strive to "Work the Hardest and Practice the Smartest."  We are the only club program that incorporates character development.  We are confident you will find it the best in basketball instruction. 
 
Plus, you gain access to other cool events, some examples in the past.  Youth teams playing during half-time of Varsity games.  Green and Gold Blowout participation, and access to all equipment and state-of-art team room of Skyline Basketball. 
 
Bonus:  For All 2011 Skyline Basketball Summer camp participants, the one-time $99 initiation fee is waived! $40 gets you on the court starting August 1st.
